A ballet and repertoire class for adults and seniors with standing and seated options, suitable for all experience and ability levels.

Designed for those new to ballet or seeking a supported, adapted movement experience.

Discover the joy of ballet in a welcoming, supportive environment with Adult Ballet for All Abilities, an inclusive and accessible ballet and repertoire class designed for people of any experience, age, or physical ability.

This gently-paced session follows the structure of a traditional ballet class.  Participants will be prompted with standing, seated and/or adapted movement options as required, making the classes ideal for adults and seniors who are new to ballet or seeking a supported and inclusive movement experience.

Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists will guide participants through ballet-inspired exercises that explore coordination, balance, strength, musicality and self-expression, with clear options and adaptions provided so everyone can move in a way that feels safe and empowering.

No prior dance experience is required. All participants will be supported to participate at their own pace in a positive, encouraging atmosphere that celebrates curiosity, confidence and connection. Come along to experience the beauty of ballet, reimagined for all adult and seniors’ bodies and abilities.

What to expect

  • A welcoming, supportive class led by Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists. Class will start with a gentle warm-up, barre work, some centre exercises and finish with an adapted piece of Queensland Ballet repertoire and a cool-down.
  • Ballet-inspired movement and terminology explored through both seated and standing options
  • Clear adaptions and alternatives offered throughout the class to suit individuals.
  • A gentle pace with time to learn, rest and explore movement safely. Focus on coordination, balance, strength, musicality and enjoyment.
  • Participation is encouraged at your own comfort level

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily
  • Ballet shoes, socks or light, flexible sneakers (all are welcome)
  • A water bottle

No previous dance experience is required.

Which class is right for you?

  • Adult Ballet for All Abilities is ideal if you:
    • Have never tried ballet before
    • Are returning to ballet or dance after an extended time away and would appreciate a re-introduction and extra support and care
    • Prefer a class where seated, standing and adapted options are always available
    • Would like a gentle, inclusive introduction to ballet in a supported environment

No prior dance experience is needed - just curiosity and a willingness to move at your own pace.

  • Ballet for Adults and Active Seniors is best suited if you:
    • Have some previous ballet experience, even if it was many years ago.
    • Are familiar (or could recall with prompting) with some basic ballet terminology and technique.
    • Enjoy challenge and a more structured ballet class with barre, centre and repertoire.
    • Want to continue developing strength, coordination and artistry through ballet.

Both classes are welcoming and inclusive - the difference lies in your experience with ballet and the level of structure or support you’d like.
