Primary Schools Program 2012
In 2012 we are pleased to present Monkey Baa’s production of The Bugalugs Bum Thief based on the book by Tim Winton. Monkey Baa Theatre for Young People has achieved critical acclaim for its work and today enjoys a national reputation for producing dynamic and innovative theatre programs for young people, their families, teachers and communities throughout Australia and internationally.
Monkey Baa’s hilarious adaptation of The Bugalugs Bum Thief has toured across five states and territories, on four separate occasions, playing to over 100,000 young people. A decade later, this hysterical adventure returns to the stage for a new generation of young people and their families to enjoy
The Bugalugs Bum Thief is a 55 minute fast paced, highly stylized musical comedy farce. It’s a delightfully silly show with 3 energetic actors playing 11 characters and singing 5 catchy songs.
The story…..
Skeeta Anderson’s got a problem. He’s woken up without his bum. I don’t know if you’ve ever thought about it but a bum is a very important part of the anatomy. Skeeta soon realizes that he’s not the only one without a bum.
All 496 citizens of Bugalugs are BUMLESS!!
So Skeeta sets out with his best friends Mick Misery and Billy Marbles to find the culprit of the crime.
On the way we meet a colourful cast of characters including Skeeta’s Mum and Dad, Miserable Mrs Misery, Mavis Marbles, Constable Coma and the school teacher Mr Wally, who runs an audience participation session inviting young people from the audience to come up and tell their news.
But then great news... Skeeta finds all the bums.
But then bad news... everyone’s too embarrassed to take their own bums back.
Fat people take the skinny ones; skinny people take the fat ones; bald people take hairy ones and you can see where I’m going…..
Eventually of course there’s a happy ending and Bugalugs returns to normal and we have the finale song, 'If you haven’t got a bum'.
As one teacher has said… 'It’s an engaging show that totally captures the children’s imaginations'.
We invite you to enrich the lives of children by sharing with them the wonderment and joy of children’s theatre at its best. Information on the 2012 Primary Schools program has been sent to primary schools in the Redlands area. Teachers’ education resource kits are available. For further enquiries please phone: 3829 8131.

Natalie Weirs’ R&J
Picture Presenter: Redland Performing Arts Centre
Venue: The Concert Hall
Schools Performance Times: Friday 27 April, 7.30pm
Duration: 1 hour - no interval
Description:
Following her award-winning 2010 production Where The Heart Is, Natalie Weir creates R&J, three moving love stories inspired by the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet.
Set across three different eras, this new production reinforces the notion that love – no matter what age you are, or what age you are in – is eternal and its power everlasting.
R&J turns the classic story of Romeo and Juliet on its head, cutting to the essence of what is real, human and inevitable. Love plays a major role in all our lives, but as Shakespeare knew too well, does not always guarantee a fairytale ending.
With music composed by John Babbage and recorded by prolific music ensemble Topology, R&J celebrates contemporary performance at its most bold and powerful.
One of these stories could be your story. Fate plays a part in all our lives.... don’t miss Queensland’s own award winning Expressions Dance Company.... R&J is Romeo and Juliet for our times...it will pull at your heart strings.

Simple Guidelines for Theatre Attendance
We ask teachers bringing students to performances at Redland Performing Arts Centre to prepare their students for theatre attendance. Here a few notes for you to use when discussing theatre etiquette with your students.
- Eating or drinking is not permitted in the theatre.
- The theatre is designed for acoustic sound. All sounds from the stage and people in their seats are amplified and can be clearly heard. Audience members sometimes make the mistake of thinking that they cannot be seen and heard. They can! Please do not talk or whisper during the performance.
- Please turn off all mobile phones, pagers, watch alarms or other electronic devices, that might cause a disturbance during the production.
- Laser light pointers are prohibited from the auditorium.
- Please remain in your seat for the entire performance. Moving in and out of the theatre during the performance disturbs other patrons and the performers and, during the day, lets light into the auditorium.
- Theatre staff have the right to ask any member of the audience to leave the performance if that person is disrupting other people’s enjoyment of the show.
We appreciate your assistance in making your visit to the theatre enjoyable for everyone.
