Papua New Guinea Showcase
Redland Performing Arts Centre

An exciting showcase of traditional and contemporary PNG music

Drummer extraordinaire Ben Hakalitz returns to the RPAC stage to headline the Papua New Guinea (PNG) showcase. PNG-born, Cairns-based drummer, Hakalitz has toured worldwide with international artists including Yothu Yindi, Sanguma and Tribe of Jubal. He will bring 30 years of musical experience and amazing technique on the drums to the evening.

Hakalitz will be joined by PNG contemporary music ensemble Melanfunk Collective, to bring an exciting and entertaining new brand of Melanesian Funk to the RPAC stage. Their fresh musical style fuses traditional rhythms and instruments with jazz, funk and grooves.  Combined with a range of other traditional and contemporary musicians, colourful cultural dances and captivating visuals from the 800 plus tribes from across the Coral Sea, this will be a night of music and culture not to be missed.

So sit back, relax and enjoy this cultural extravaganza that celebrates all things Papua New Guinea on the week of PNG’s 45th Independence celebrations.
