Description:

5 CONCERTS OVER 3 WEEKENDS - BOOK FOR 3 OR MORE AND SAVE!

See Topology and the Kransky Sisters, Kupka’s Piano, David Bridie, Lawrence English and ELISION at the CCME

Over five nights some of Australia’s very best musicians perform music from the present time, live in the best acoustic environment in South East Queensland – the RPAC Concert Hall.

The diversity and quality of works presented in the program is outstanding and covers music and sound from across the world and from much closer to home. The event will put the familiar next to the experimental, the simple next to the complex, and the dissonant next to the harmonious.

The CCME offers a rare snap-shot opportunity to focus in on the excellence, inspiration and imagination driving contemporary music composition and performance.

ELISION
The Wreck of Former Boundaries
Saturday 4 November, 7.30pm

ELISION is Australia’s premier new music ensemble. Formed in Melbourne in 1986, ELISION’s work has focused increasingly on pushing physical boundaries in search of certain kinds of visceral expressive experiences. Their work is driven by the desire to explore long-term co-creative processes with composers; to imagine, develop and build new technical and expressive means. The scores they have commissioned propose new forms of musical thinking and also reflect the energies of ELISION musicians. More info>

LAWRENCE ENGLISH
Cruel Optimism
Friday 10 November, 7pm

Lawrence English’s concerts have been described by Pitchfork ‘as a porous-but-crushing ambient set that felt a little like being flattened by a stack of hay bales’. His latest full length work has been inspired by the text titled Cruel Optimism by American theorist Lauren Berlant. Drawing together his interests in the activation of the body through sound, the sonic characteristics of protest and unique approaches to harmonic distortion, he delivers his latest innately synaesthetic concert. More info>

DAVID BRIDIE IN CONCERT
Saturday 11 November, 7pm

David Bridie is one of Australia’s most prolific and innovative contemporary musicians. He rose to prominence in the critically acclaimed band Not Drowning, Waving and later formed the ARIA award-winning musical outfit, My Friend the Chocolate Cake.
