Balka Bitni - part of the Quandamooka Festival
Presenter:
Quandamooka Festival
Description:

IDENTITY. CONNECTION. CULTURE. CRISIS

Balka Bitni is an original poetry-theatre production directed by and featuring hip-hop artist /poet Sachem Parkin-Owens*. Special guests include American comedian and actor, Norm ‘Thump’ Nixon Jr., soulful singers Adrian Eagle and Georgia Corowa and a cast of amazing Quandamooka and local performers.

We witness the life journey of an Indigenous boy as he finds his way through disconnection from culture and land, the temptations of the material world, and his discovery of the true meaning of power and wealth.

We see how his choices affect the health of mother nature and his own family. Will he find the inner strength needed to help mother nature regenerate? Will he reconnect or disconnect from his roots?

*2017 Queensland Poetry Festival joint winner of the Oodgeroo Noonuccal Indigenous Poetry Prize, Sachem is an Emerging Arts and Cultural Events Producer with the Quandamooka Festival under an Australia Council for the Arts’ Chosen sponsorship.
