Topology’s lush pulse-driven music for strings, piano and saxophone has been at the forefront of Australian creativity since 1997. The quintet experiments with surprising blends of genres, theatrical staging and cross art collaborations to create exciting, thought-provoking music experiences.
As part of their award-winning Top Up program, Topology has been working with emerging artists, young composers and schools from around the Redlands district to create a program of brand new exciting works for the Cleveland Contemporary Music Event.
Topology will also present excerpts from their latest release Tortured Remixes, a mixtape of pop songs filtered through the minds of their composers. The result: iconic tunes stretched, bent and scrambled (almost) beyond recognition, then reassembled into adventurous new works. Featuring remixes of The Saints, MC Hammer, The Beatles, Stevie Wright, Beyonce, Cold Chisel and many more, Tortured Remixes is a tribute to the 60’s - 00’s like you’ve never heard them before.
“Topology are the most creative composers of new contemporary music in Australia today” Christopher Lawrence, ABC Classic FM
“It’s so lovely to see students perform music written by their peers; about things, people, and places that they actually know” Karen Stewart, music teacher
“The journey of 'Tortured Remixes' is an introspective one, encouraging us to re-examine our own relationships to popular music” Kill Your Darlings
